“Three Winners” Book Giveaway of the Month: Deception

This month we’re giving away Randy’s murder mystery novel Deception to three randomly drawn winners.

Those who have read Randy’s previous novels Deadline and Dominion might remember Ollie Chandler, Deception’s main character, as the gruff yet lovable cop who made an appearance in both books.

Randy writes, “Though publishers and readers have asked me to, I’ve never in my previous six novels felt I wanted to go back and use the main character again as such in a subsequent book. I know it would be easier in some ways, but I’ve felt like each person gets one book on center stage. Ollie Chandler is the first character that has made me feel different about this. When I started Deception I thought this would be it, no more stories centered on Ollie. But once I got inside his head, things slowly changed. I thought, ‘I like this guy, I like his quirks, his sense of humor, the gruff exterior and the soft heart, the head-butting toughness and the vulnerability of a lifetime of hurts’.”

Here’s a short video with a dramatic presentation of the opening scene from Deception and a clip of Randy talking about the book. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwuUxrKUUkA)

The deadline to enter the Deception giveaway is Friday, May 30, and the winners will be announced in a blog post on Tuesday, June 3. (We’re not announcing the winners until June, because I [Stephanie] will be getting married May 24!)

To enter for your chance to win, leave a comment on this post. (If you're reading this post on Amazon or elsewhere, visit http://randyalcorn.blogspot.com/2008/05/three-winners-book-giveaway-of-month.html to leave your comment.) Need help posting a comment? Click here for step-by-step instructions. For further assistance, contact me at stephanie@epm.org

Please be sure to include your contact information (a blog, or an e-mail address), otherwise we cannot contact you if your name is drawn. However, if you would prefer not to post your e-mail address, please check back on June 2 to find out if you are a winner.

During May, the paperback version of Deception is also on sale at the Eternal Perspective Ministries website for $8.99 (retail price $14.99, regularly $11.99 from EPM).

Since I’m writing about Deception, it’s worth noting that Deception is a 2008 Christian Book Award Finalist for the fiction category, and Randy’s children’s book Wait Until Then is also a finalist for the children and youth category. (Safely Home won the book of the year in the fiction category in 2002.) The Christian Book Awards were established in 1978 as the Gold Medallion Book Awards by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association, and are some of the oldest and most prestigious literary awards in the religious publishing industry. They recognize the absolute highest quality in Christian books; finalists are chosen based on excellence in content, literary quality, design, and significance of contribution. This year's award winners will be announced in July at the International Christian Retail Show. Congrats Randy! You can see the rest of the finalists by visiting the ECPA website.

In closing, we've received letters from readers young and old and all ages in between who have enjoyed reading Deception. I thought I’d share a picture of one such young reader. Here’s Ellie, 14-year-old granddaughter of Kathy Norquist, Randy’s assistant, contemplating her fourth read of Deception. She’s already read it three times, and according to Ellie—who’s a big reader—it’s the best book she’s ever read.

I think you’ll enjoy Deception, too. Happy reading!

I greatly enjoyed Deception - borrowed it, Dominion and Deadline from my local library. I will post about this drawing on my Reading Room blog.

My eight year old daughter knows I enjoy your work and for Mother's Day she and my husband gave me a copy of your book "Heaven." My husband told me that she took control of the situation and asked the sales associate at our local Christian bookstore if they sold Randy Alcorn books. I'm glad to own it because I know it will take longer than the three weeks the library loans books to read it.

I appreciate you work!

Randy, please put me in this drawing. I have already read ALL of your fantastic books in this series. I used to live in the Portland/Gresham area and I can 'see' in my minds eyes the very streets you speak about in your books. Without giving the end of this book away, I DO hope you write a sequel to this book tho.. we need more of Ollie...
Your writings have given me a new perspective on what life will be like after we leave the 'shadowlands' and I can hardly wait! You have also given me a thirst for good Christian fiction books and I wish you had many many more books out there that you have authored.
Thanks Again Randy and Blessings to your helper who puts these drawings together.

I was checking out Randy's book, "Wait Until Then" and found more info about him. I would love to win the book, "Deception." I've not read any of Randy's books but they sound really good. I do want to pursue buying "Wait Until Then" for my grandchildren after I locate it locally so I can see what's in it. My e-mail address is gramma_elaine@comcast.net.

Well, I really need this book. My hubby and I met Randy last January and each got signed copies of Deception before it was released.

So then I gave away hubby's copy since I felt greedy keeping two. THEN a few months later, I TOTALLY FORGOT I had given it away and did "a signed copy of Deception" give-away on my blog AND HAD TO GIVE AWAY MY (MY!!!) COPY!!

So, clearly, I sorely need to win. :)

p.s. Hi, Stephanie. I write books. My first one is called From Blushing Bride to Wedded Wife. If you'd like me to send you a copy (no strings attached, won't even ask you to rig the May drawing), shoot me an e-mail!

Please enter me into the drawing for Deception.

The first book I read was "Edge of Eternity." This book helped me reach Heaven in a whole different way. I grew up in a difficult religious upbringing. This book taught me so much about myself and how I see my Heavenly Father. I just finished Deadline (my sister's favorite book), and I'm in the middle of Dominion (which is amazing!) Thank you for your faithfulness to Jesus!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK! Easily one of the best books I have EVER read! And just so you know, I read like a fish. (Oh, wait - am I sounding like Chief Lennox? Or perhaps I'm not the sharpest Krispie Kreme in the box?) Anyway, I just finished reading a library copy of DECEPTION moments ago and I had already decided I WANT MY OWN COPY!! Pulled it up on Amazon and found this contest. How cool is that? But what a fantastic story this is! The humor alone was worth the read. FABULOUS job, Mr. Alcorn! Keep 'em coming!

I am so excited about all of Randy's books! I have read and loved them all and now my 11 year old son, who LOVES to read, is discovering Christian fiction and loves it! My husband and I have appreciated Randy Alcorn's writings so much. We think "Safely Home" is the best book we've read and sent copies to 7 of our relatives. "Deadline" and "Dominion" are wonderful as well. His books are life changing and make you really think. Please enter me in the contest. Thank you!

Jeri Barnhart said...

Dear Randy, I have had the privilege of reading "Safely Home" (twice), "Dominion," and "Deception" through the gratitude and thanks of a friend loaning me her copies. I have since bought three copies of "Safely Home" and loan out all but one copy...that is mine!! It certainly has opened my heart to persecuted believers all over the world and my desire to see them receive the Word in their own language. I am currently on "The Seed Company" mailing list and a former employee of Wycliffe Bible Translators (back in the 1960's).

I have given the copy of "Deception" back to the person who loaned it to me, and would like to enter the contest for a copy of my own so I can read it again. Question?...could it be possible that Ollie was the little boy that Clarence and his cohorts beat up as a child?? Interesting thought, huh? And does Ollie finally make the step toward completely receiving Jesus as his Lord and Savior??

Kindest regards in Jesus,
Jeri Barnhart

I am not entering this for myself, but for one of my brothers. He and I have read all the fictional books but this one. He has started collecting what you might call "Randy Alcorn's fictional series." He wanted to buy Deception as soon as it came to our church bookstore. Imagine my surprise, then, when he gave me the book for Christmas. He is patiently waiting for me to read it (still), telling me that it is my book so I should get the chance to read it first. So, I'm entering Tyler H. :)
